Ultra-Sensitive Sensor with Gold Nanoparticle Array

Nanowerk | The sensor is made up of a series of gold disk-shaped nanoparticles on a glass slide. The team at Bath discovered that when they shone an infra-red laser at a precise arrangement of the particles, they started to emit unusual amounts of ultra violet (UV) light.

Choosing the right source for your evaporation process

The right source for your process will depend on many factors. The first thing you will need is our catalog, if you do not already have one. This will give you all of our standard part dimensions, power requirements and pricing along with other useful evaporation information.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Source
  • Evaporant: What material is being evaporated? Which source material is compatible with your evaporant? (see our Source Reference Guide)
  • Temperature: What temperature will you require?
  • Dimensions: What is minimum & maximum length that will fit in to your vacuum chamber mounting scheme?
  • Power Supply: How much power do you have to heat the source (amperage)?
  • Capacity: What capacity will you need to achieve your desired thickness?
  • Direction: Are you evaporating upwards, downwards or sideways?
  • Source to Substrate: What is your required throw distance?

The MXene class of materials has many talents. An international team led by HZB chemist Michelle Browne has now demonstrated that MXenes, properly functionalized, are excellent catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction in electrolytic water splitting.

The findings have been published in Journal of Materials Chemistry A.

Water contamination by the chemicals used in today’s technology is a rapidly growing problem globally. A recent study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control found that 98 percent of people tested had detectable levels of PFAS, a family of particularly long-lasting compounds also known as “forever chemicals,” in their bloodstream.

The findings are described in the journal ACS Nan, in a paper by MIT postdoc Yilin Zhang, professor of civil and environmental engineering Benedetto Marelli…

Organic solar cells (OSCs) – promising alternatives to traditional inorganic solar cells – have many features that make them key players in a greener future. One of these features is tunable chemistry, which allows scientists to precisely adjust or modify the properties of chemical systems to achieve desired outcomes.
