  • Technical Tip

Tungsten Wire Mixture

When thermally evaporating aggressive and corrosive materials such as aluminum, problems with boat lifetime and migration tend to happen.

  1. Material can migrate out of the evaporation area, collecting at cooler spots on a source. Normally, this spot will be at the clamping points.
  2. Corrosive molten metal can quickly alloy and corrode through refractory boats, causing it to fracture.

Tungsten Wire Mixture Part # WWMIX

Part # WWMIX

Adding in tungsten wire mixture as an additive helps to prevent these issues, allowing a more consistent coating process.

  1. Metals such as aluminum will wet to the clippings. This retains the evaporation material inside a boat and increases its surface area.

  2. This 99.95% minimum purity tungsten behaves as sacrificial clippings against corrosion, which enables more cycles out of a single boat.

Product Information

R.D. Mathis part number WWMIX undergoes a multi-step cleaning process, packaged, and is ready for use upon receipt.

This product is offered in one-ounce (WWMIX-1OZ) or one-pound (WWMIX-1LB) quantities, incorporated into processes for research labs, semiconductor fabrication, and many more production applications.
